So there are so many awesome books coming out this year and I have picked the three books that I am most excited about that come out at some time this year!
1. Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld-
Publisher: Simon pulse
Page Count: 608
Release Date: 24th September
So for this weeks Tag Tuesday I am doing the summertime madness tag before summer ends! So lets get into it!
Question 1.
Show a book with a summery cover.
Answer.
I would have to say the cover of Amy and Rogers epic detour by Morgan Matson because they're wearing summery clothes and you can see that the sun is shining and it looks generally sunny.
Hey guys, today I will be doing a 'stacking the shelves' and this is where I share the books and book swag that I got this past week so here we go!
So to start off this week, on Wednesday I attended a Leigh Bardugo and Moira Young signing event and I had already read the Shadow and Bone series and owned all the books but I hadn't read any of the dustlands series so I bought Blood Red Road and got it signed!
So as I promised I will be doing a blog post a week and in order to keep on top of all the posts I have made a schedule that I will follow with a different post type a day. Some days there will be more than one post published if there is something specific I want to talk about as well as the promised post. Anyway, this is what my blogging schedule looks like from now on:
Hey everyone! as of today I am going to do a segment on my blog every tuesday stating my Book Boyfriend of the week! I have seen this on a few blogs and you could do it too! All you have to do is state your book boyfriend of the week whether its from the book you're currently reading or a book you just finished this week! So who's my book boyfriend of the week...
Josh from Isla and the Happily every After!
I read and finished Isla and the happily ever after this week (watch out for a review)
and it was fantastic! Even though Étienne is still my all time book boyfriend I still thought more of Josh from this book than I did of him in Anna and the french kiss!
So that was my book boyfriend of the week! Stay tuned for next tuesday when I say my book boyfriend for that week!
Hey everyone! Today I am going to discuss something that a lot of people want to know about. So we all want to read as much as we can whenever we can so I am going to tell you some of my tips on how to get the most out of your time reading wise.
Tip #1 - Set a reading Schedule. Have a set time every day when you try to read as much as you possibly can whether it be for an hour of three. If it helps, get your mom, dad or even phone to tell you when you need to get some reading done. Set your alarm or tell your parents to warn you when 5 O'clock comes.
Tip #2 - When you have free time, see going on the computer or watching the TV as a bad thing. Whenever you have free time grab a book and don't stop until you're desperate to.
Tip #3 - If a book isn't working for you, STOP. If you're planning to read a lot this month then if you find yourself avoiding a book because it's boring or just not what you're looking for at the moment, stop reading it. If you're not enjoying a book it will take you much longer than it usually would, and in that time you would finish a few books. I usually wait until I'm 100 pages in and then I say, 'Do I want to continue with this book?'
Tip #4 - If you find yourself in a reading slump in the middle of a book or not, find a book that you enjoyed so so so much (for me it's Anna and the French Kiss) and re read it. If you loved it that much it should be easier to get you back into the reading Mojo and should get you more set up for other books.
Tip #5 - Participate in a readathon! I can guarantee you that at most points throughout the year there is a readathon on or coming up. They may not even be big or popular readathons but they still count. Readathons for me get me very competetive and just make me want to succeed so I find it's very good for me.
BONUS TIP: BACK TO SCHOOL...
Tip #6 - Book treats. Okay so you may have seen this on a social media somewhere (I stole it from Instagram). If you're struggling with school reading of your textbook, get some small snacks (gummy bears or small wrapped chocolates are ideal) and after every paragraph or so, place the snack on the page and when you have read to the place where the gummy bear is, you get to eat the snack! It's meant to be motivating so it should be good.
Should look like this...
I hope you all enjoyed reading this and I hope you all give these tips a shot and I hope they work for you!
Hey guys! Today I didn't have any good ideas of what to post so I've decided that I would do the Characters Book Tag! So Let's get straight into it!
Question 1) Who is the best Kick-butt character?
A: I would probably have to say Alina from the Shadow and Bone series because she can use her power (the cut) to basically cut through things and she can kill and she's awesome so I pick Alina.
Question 2) Which character do you most dislike?
A: Probably Phoebe from The Evolution of Mara Dyer, she is creepy and rude and strange and just plain weird! Every scene she was in made me wish for the next or made me angry or scared and ugh I just hate her soooo much!
Question 3) If you could date any fictional character who would it be and why?
A: ÉTIENNE ST CLAIR, I REPEAT, ÉTIENNE ST CLAIR. Étienne is my fictional boyfriend so obviously I'd choose him. He is funny and witty and he seems like you could have an awesome time with him!
Question 4) If you could change a character in any way who would you change and why?
A: I would change Zoya from Shadow and Bone. I would still keep her Kick-Ass element but I would make her nicer. Simply because in the third book, Ruin and Rising, the scenes where she was nicer were awesome and she seems like a great character.
Question 5) What character do you think made all the wrong choices?
A: Nathan from Half Bad. I think he made some irrational decisions and he rushed into things and trusted some people who he maybe shouldn't have trusted in the first place.
Question 6) Which character is you favourite Villain who you love to hate?
A: The Darkling from yet again, Shadow and Bone. He is the main villain but you get to see that he has a good side and that he is a good person beneath. It also helps that he's good looking.
Question 7) Favourite side-kick character with the most heart?
A: Kim from If I stay. She stays with Mia and says some really supportive things to her even though right before that we see her tough exterior.
Question 8) What is your favourite fictional character romantic relationship?
A: #fourtris <4
Question 9) What character do you think was the strongest (not physically but mentally)?
A: Either Noah or Mara from the unbecoming of Mara Dyer. Because all the crazy stuff that happens in this book it's surprising when neither of them go crazy or commit suicide.
Question 10) Best Protagonist?
A: Tris Prior. I just love Tris she is awesome and yeah...
Okay well thanks for reading! If you finished the post and got to this point comment 'I really like chicken feet' so I can tell!
Hey guys, so I know the struggles of finding a new book to read and I love it when somebody suggests me a book, so here are my top ten books that I would recommend to everyone and anyone!
Warning- These are not my favourite books (obviously I liked them though) they're books that I think will have something for everyone and will be enjoyable to many people!
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - Fangirl is my favourite book by Rainbow and unlike Eleanor and Park it is set in 2011 so it's easier to relate to and it's unlike Attachments and Landline because it's teenage fiction. I find this book very relatable and the characters are all so loveable!
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo - This book is hard to put into a category because it's unlike anything I've ever read before! This book is about a girl called Alina and her journey starting from when she finds out that she is part of the 'Grisha' which is a population of people who possess the ability to use the elements to their advantage! So many hot fictional guys are in this book and it is SO SO GOOD. There are those times in this book where its so good you want to throw yourself in a river so beware (also make sure you finish the whole series before you throw yourself into a river)
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart - I'm sure most of you have heard mixed reviews about this book and I am not going to go into much detail about this book because the whole point of this book is to not give anything away (but I can tell you about the HUGE plot twist towards the end) No matter if you didn't like the writing style or the characters (which seem to be the main problem for some people) it is an enjoyable story and you will be hooked!
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Oh my God THESE BOOKS, THESE FREAKING BOOKS. This is a necessity read. This series is incredibly good. It fills you with confusion, it thrills you and Noah Shaw is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! I can't even function a good explanation of why I love this book so you'll just have to see for yourself! READ IT!
Divergent by Veronica Roth - No words, just read it.
Four by Veronica Roth - Even if you haven't read Divergent you could still read four. It works well to give you an insight of the divergent world even if you haven't read it but it also makes you understand more of Divergent if you've already read the series. It's safe to read Four first as you will not be spoiled about anything that happens in Divergent! We all know I can rave about Divergent forever but I'm serious you guys, this is bootiful.
Legend by Marie Lu - This series is, I admit, not one of my favourite dystopian series but I will admit that it is quick paced and very addictive. The series seemed to get better as you go along with it and you realised by the end of Champion (the third book in the trilogy) that you had a connection with the characters which made the finale even more sad :(. I recommend these books because even though they may lack some things, they make it up with their addictiveness and their pace.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver - This trilogy is amazing! I will say that the first book is the best of them all but the second and third do not disappoint! This series is about A world where love is considered a disease by many including the female protagonist Lena. But when Lena falls in love she has to decide what to do before time runs out and she has to be cured. These books are so good and Lauren oliver is an amazing writers and it shows in all of these books!
The Look by Sophia Bennet - This book is a lesser known contemporary but is still as good. This book is about a girl called Ted who was one day out with her sister when she gets spotted by a modeling agency. Ted doesn't believe it to start because she is tall and lanky whereas the sister she was with is gorgeous. Ted soon becomes a model after finding out that it is not a scam, but at the same time her sister becomes very ill and Ted is forced to choose between her sister and he career. This book is underhyped and It was such a quick and lovely read and I recommend it to anyone who likes Stephanie Perkins books ( we all love them don't deny it)
Anything by Stephanie Perkins! - Whether it be Anna and the French kiss, Lola and the boy next door or Isla and the Happily Ever After, you need to read these books! Stephanie Perkins is a genius when it comes to writing about love, I have so many feels when I read her books and they're all just as good as the others (though I have to admit that Anna is my favourite simply because Étienne is my fictional BF) But these books do not disappoint in any shape or form!
So there you have it! I recommend all of these books and I would love them to be loved by other people! Thanks for reading!
Book Talk: Ruin and Rising: Grisha book 3 By Leigh Bardugo
Title: Ruin and Rising
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Publishers: Indigo
Release Date: 19 June 2014
Page Count: 433
Goodreads Synopsis:
The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.
Ruin and Rising is the third and final book in the Shadow and Bone Trilogy and what an end it was! I absolutely loved this book and I think that the whole story was summed up really well for a great conclusion!
Warning, This review is FULL of spoilers.
In this book talk I will not only be reviewing this book and telling you my ratings, I will also be discussing some points with you guys and some queries I had about the book. If you want to participate in the discussion of 'Ruin and Rising' then feel free to comment down below!
In the Before section of the book at the very start we find out about Izumrud the huge worm thing. One thing that I realised after finishing this book is that we didn't actually get to find out if Izumrud was real. It says that Alina had no doubt that it was real but I wish it was seen in the book and played more of a central part, even though it isn't one of the three amplifiers.
So the actual story starts off with Alina being stuck in the white cathedral with her power at a stand still. I really hated these scenes because, I absolutely hate the apparat. What I didn't understand was why he was keeping Alina inside all this time when he wanted the people to see her power. Even though he wanted to keep her under surveillance and so that she couldn't get away from he but he knew that her power wouldn't work underground. Yes I know that he wants to keep her underground for her safety (even more so that he thinks she will run from him and he will no longer be able to take advantage of her if she leaves) but it still is a stupid thing to do.
When we find out what happens to Genya, I was kind of sad about that because even though Genya did betray Alina to the darkling he betrayed Genya after her services and I forgave Genya because she was punished for betraying her even though the punishment was a bit harsh, but thats the darkling!
Onto love interests I really enjoyed Nikolai as a character. If Alina was going to be with any of the possible people in the book I would have liked her to go with Nikolai. Because:
1) He isn't an evil tyrant (even though that evil tyrant is awesome)
2) He doesn't get drunk and kiss other girls and keep going on and on about how he thinks he will never be good enough for Alina (like seriously, stop)
3) He is a prince
4) He is good looking
5) He is charming
I did like the Darkling despite him being the overall 'bad guy' of the book. When Baghra died you could really see that he was still human and that he had feeling even though he was evil.
Many people didn't like Mal at all but even though he isn't my favourite of the 3 love interests, I did like Mal. Especially when Nikolai had become a rabid bird falcon thing and when he seemed like the only one Alina could love at the moment (even though we all knew he would be her choice in the end) I ended up seeing why she liked him and I felt sad when the time came that she stabbed him.
Speaking of the stabbing...OMG WHAT. My original reaction was that. I didn't think she would kill him but when it happened I realised that that had to happen and I thought that was it but he came back so its all good.
When we first knew about this whole Mal being the third amplifier and the whole Baghra's sister thing, I thought that Baghra's sister would be Alina's mother and that she and Morozova hadn't died. Also thinking that Baghra's sister possessed the same power as Alina and it was passed down to her. There was no evidence to believe this but I still thought this would be a better connection that it being Mal's mother.
Before I was aware that Mal was the descendant and not Alina, I thought that if they were related that maybe the Darkling knew about this because of some of the things he said to her like 'Like calls to like' and 'There is no one else like us' (Turns out it was just him being big headed and melodramatic).
When we find out about the third amplifier is Mal the third thing that comes into my mind is that why is the firebrid in the Istorii Sankt'ya? Also it made me wonder if Morozova's daughter is also in the picture just not being shown enough? Sadly there was no answer to this by the end of the book.
When I had about 100 pages left into the book I started to wonder whether Leigh Bardugo would kill off the Darkling considering he was such a popular and loved character even though he was evil despite that being the obvious thing that should happen.
I liked the way that this book contained LGBT characters (Nadia and Tamar) And I like that their relationship was not made a big deal about it because it gives off the impression that its the most normal thing ever and nothing to be fretting about, which it is of course. But I really liked this part of the book.
Okay so one thing that I realised in this book is that DAVID IS EPIC. David has not seemed so amazing in the other two books to me. I always knew that he was very clever and an important character and didn't mind that he wasn't as adventurous as the others, but as his inventions and understanding of the Istorii Sankt'ya in the 2nd and 3rd books make me realise how much of a central character and just how EPIC he is. (Just putting that out there)
I realised that towards the end of the book Alina seems to become more self obsessed. She is by no means big headed and its a very subtle thing but I was wondering if Leigh did it on purpose knowing that it would make sense as that would be what happens when she seeks the third amplifier. I don't know whether this was intentional but it worked!
Okay so let's talk now about all the things I wished would happen at the end of the book.
I really wanted Alina and Mal to meet their mothers. Now that we know Mals mother must have survived through the drowning because she had a child.
Speaking of Zoya I wanted her to be in a relationship with Harshaw but when we find out that he dies I started to want something to happen between her and Nikolai because even though he finds her irritable, I think they would be a good match.
Overall this book was an amazing and well thought out conclusion to the Grisha Trilogy and I gave this book 5/5 stars on goodreads.
Thanks for reading!
Lily.
